Had a home no limit texas hold em tournament… an incident occured at the table where I was playing.
The river card comes up on the board and first to act (player A) bets the blind $400. The player to follow (Player B) says “all in”. Player A says “I call” and Player B quickly flips over his cards… in almost the same instance other players out of the hand quickly and loudly inform Player B that Player C is still in the hand and has not acted yet. Player quickly tries to cover his cards. Player C had not been paying attention to the hand and has to be informed of what is going on and that they need to call or fold to the all in bet of Player B. Player C after some time has passed finally folds and Player A says “well, I know what your cards are so I can’t call” and folds his cards.
So the question is… we all know verbal declarations on your turn are binding and actions out of turn such as folding and tossing chips into the pot are binding BUT are out of turn verbal declarations binding? Most of the websites I find deal with out of turn actions and verbal declarations during a player’s turn…. a few sites deal with Q&A’s which say that they are NOT binding out of turn but can anyone tell me of a poker rule book I can look up that specifically states one way or the other?
It has always been known at my house verbal declarations out of turn are NOT binding such as someone joking with their friend about raising or going all in because their friend is on the blind… but this had never happened before. It made a huge difference in the game as Player A saved himself a huge stack of chips and later won the tournament. Player B came in 3rd. Odds are Player A would have lost earlier on in the tournament as the all in would have nearly taken out Player A and put Player B in a huge, really huge chip lead over the rest of the players in the tournament. Player B might have finished 1st or 2nd with Player A out and the amount of chips Player B would have had. Player A and Player B were the chip leaders at that time and had just come from two other tables they had pretty much cleaned out respectively.

If any information is left out it’s on purpose; I’m curious about this situation in virtually any setting (cash game or tourney, as the big stack or small stack, etc.). Here are the parameters I will give:
1. Image of a semi-loose aggressive player, but generally not a stone cold bluffer (although pretty frequently semi-bluffs). However, conservative; prefers to get involved in smaller pots.
2. No limit texas hold em.
I’ve been reading Sklansky’s theory of poker and am curious about situations when you might raise for a free card. If you have a pretty strong number of outs (saying 2 overs and a straight/flush draw, or an overpair with a straight/flush draw) and you raise for a free card, what do you do if you face a re-raise? Would it make a difference if you were heads up or in a multi-way pot?

I used to have to prepare for hours for the games. Sometimes the parties were at my house, sometimes at elsewhere. So there was lots of preparation time, clean up, decorating, shopping, etc.
I now have many more hours of disposable time. I did not realize my boys have grown so much. What kind of things should I do with them?
I looked at their collection of games and books. The last games I played with them was Candyland and Chutes & Ladders. They laughed at me when I suggested playing those. They said they were playing Trivia Pursuit European edition, and Clue. Also, they are very sharp Poker players. They have won several computer Texas Hold’ Em tournaments.
So, should I just start having them play with us on poker nights? They are still way too young to get into the casino.
What other things can I do to spend quality time with them now?
I mean Brady will be back next season, so I can’t look long term.

How often do you usually play? What games do you usually play? I like 7 card stud and Omaha Hi-Lo. Texas Hold-em is ok, but not my favorite. Opinions?

Playing a Texas Hold Em tournament at my house this past Friday night, there were 9 of us at the table I was sitting at. A little bit into the game the person dealing accidentally flipped one of my cards up. It was the K of clubs. I said I didn’t care and he didn’t have to re-deal and the game went on … until it was my neighbor’s turn to bet. At that point she asked me what the card was that got flipped over. I told her I wasn’t saying. And she said I have to.
Everyone else at the table agreed, I didn’t have to tell. But she kept insisting that everyone else saw the card so I have to tell her what it was.
But only myself, the dealer and one other person saw the whole card (and she folded). One other person said he saw it but only saw that it was black.
And it’s not my problem she wasn’t looking when it flipped over.
Well, I never did tell her what the card was and I folded the next time around but nearly 5 days later she’s still whining about the whole thing, saying she was entitled to know what the card was.
So is there some kind of rule that says I had to tell her the card? I know next time I’ll just ask for a re-deal to avoid all this.
Thanks!
